Global Cyber Talent Initiative ("GCTI") is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all participants, staff, and stakeholders. This policy outlines our approach to creating and maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.

Zero Tolerance
We have zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, discrimination, or any form of harm. All concerns will be taken seriously and investigated promptly.

Types of Harm We Prevent
Abuse and Neglect
We protect against all forms of abuse including:
- Physical abuse or harm
- Emotional or psychological abuse
- Sexual abuse or exploitation
- Neglect or failure to provide appropriate care
- Financial abuse or exploitation
Harassment and Discrimination
We prohibit:
- Bullying, intimidation, or harassment of any kind
- Discrimination based on protected characteristics
- Sexual harassment or inappropriate conduct
- Cyberbullying or online harassment
- Victimization or retaliation
Vulnerability and Exploitation
We recognize and protect vulnerable individuals from:
- Exploitation or manipulation
- Grooming or inappropriate relationships
- Coercion or undue influence
- Isolation or exclusion
Roles and Responsibilities
All Participants
- Treat others with respect and dignity
- Report concerns about safety or welfare
- Follow safeguarding procedures and guidelines
- Respect professional boundaries
Staff and Instructors
- Undergo appropriate background checks and training
- Recognize signs of harm or vulnerability
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times
- Document and report concerns promptly
Safeguarding Lead
GCTI has a designated Safeguarding Lead responsible for:
- Overseeing safeguarding procedures
- Receiving and investigating concerns
- Liaising with external agencies when necessary
- Providing support and guidance
- Ensuring policy compliance

What to Report
- Any form of abuse, harm, or neglect

Emergency Situations
If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services (911/999) immediately, then inform GCTI's Safeguarding Lead.
Response Procedures
When a safeguarding concern is reported:
- Initial Assessment: The Safeguarding Lead will assess the concern and determine urgency
- Investigation: Appropriate investigation will be conducted with sensitivity and confidentiality
- Support: Affected individuals will receive appropriate support and protection
- Action: Necessary actions will be taken, which may include disciplinary measures or external reporting
- Review: Cases will be reviewed to identify lessons learned and improve procedures
Confidentiality
We respect confidentiality while prioritizing safety:
- Information will be shared only with those who need to know
- Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed if there is a risk of harm
- External agencies may be contacted when legally required
- All records will be kept securely and confidentially
Support and Resources
We provide support for those affected by safeguarding issues:
Counseling Services
Access to professional counseling and mental health support.
Advocacy
Support and advocacy throughout any investigation or process.
External Resources
Referrals to external support services and organizations.
Ongoing Support
Continued support and check-ins as needed.
Training and Awareness
All staff and participants receive:
- Safeguarding awareness training
- Information about recognizing signs of harm
- Guidance on reporting procedures
- Regular updates on safeguarding practices
External Agencies
We work with external agencies including:
- Local safeguarding boards and authorities
- Police and law enforcement
- Social services
- Specialist support organizations
We will involve external agencies when necessary to ensure appropriate protection and support.
